CLEANING EQUIPMENT GUIDE

NOTHING MACHINES UNTIL IT'S CLEAN. How Canadian machine shops plan the cleaning stage — spray cabinets, hot tanks, ultrasonic and blast systems — and finance the throughput.

Cleaning is the intake gate of every engine that enters a machine shop — and the stage that quietly sets shop throughput. Blocks, heads, cranks and small parts all arrive dirty and need to be clean before inspection or machining.

This guide covers the equipment planning: system types, capacity, workflow and financing. Chemical selection, handling and disposal belong to manufacturer instructions, SDS requirements and local environmental rules — never to this guide.

THE CLEANING SYSTEMS

SPRAY & WASH

Aqueous spray cabinets and jet washers — the volume workhorse for blocks and components
Hot tank / immersion systems for heavy soil

SPECIALTY

Ultrasonic cleaning systems for intricate components
Blast cabinets and component blasting for surface preparation

SCALE

Passenger through heavy-duty component scale
Production cleaning for reman operations
High-level utility and environmental considerations

No chemical guidance here — solutions, handling and disposal follow equipment and chemical manufacturer instructions, SDS requirements and local environmental rules.

CAPACITY SETS THE SHOP RATE

Cleaning capacity defines how many engines can be in the workflow at once — every machining stage downstream idles when the cleaning stage is the bottleneck. Plan cleaning capacity against monthly engine intake with headroom for the component mix (blocks and heads together, cranks and small parts in parallel).

Throughput arguments also carry the financing case: a cleaning system sized for growth is one of the clearest capacity investments a machine shop can make.

FINANCING THE CLEANING STAGE

Cleaning equipment is commonly financed with the machining equipment it feeds — one facility package, multiple vendors, one application. Eligible used systems are reviewable with tank, pump, heater and controls condition documented.
