Modern vehicles steer, brake and warn using cameras, radar and other sensors — and those sensors need to be calibrated after windshield replacement, collision repair, alignment work and suspension service. ADAS calibration has become a revenue line for collision centres, glass businesses, dealerships and independent calibration specialists alike.

This guide covers the equipment behind it: what the categories are, how they fit together, and what it takes to plan a calibration capability.

STATIC AND DYNAMIC CALIBRATION

Static calibration happens in a controlled bay, with the vehicle stationary and targets or patterns positioned at defined distances from the sensors. It's the most equipment-intensive method — and the one most shops build a bay around.

Dynamic calibration happens with the vehicle in motion, following defined driving procedures with a scan tool guiding the process. Many vehicles use a combination of both methods. Which procedures a given vehicle requires comes from the vehicle maker's own service information — equipment capabilities vary by manufacturer and system.

Sensor aiming and diagnostic accessories

SCAN TOOLS & DIAGNOSTICS

ADAS-capable professional scan tools
Bi-directional calibration routines
Calibration documentation and reporting

ALIGNMENT INTEGRATION

Alignment systems with ADAS workflow support
Alignment-before-calibration sequencing
3D imaging alignment systems common in ADAS bays

PLANNING AN ADAS BAY?

Targets, frames, scan tools, alignment — capture the whole system in one project, from one or several vendors.

FINANCE ADAS EQUIPMENT

PLANNING A CALIBRATION BAY

FLOOR SPACE — defined clear distances for target positioning, per the equipment system's requirements
LIGHTING — controlled, even lighting; some systems are sensitive to ambient conditions
FLOOR MARKING & LEVEL — a level floor and marked target positions
WALL & CEILING DISTANCES — static procedures often require defined clearances
ALIGNMENT ACCESS — most calibration workflows pair with alignment first

Bay requirements come from each equipment system's specifications — use this list for planning, and the manufacturer's requirements for the build.

WHO BUILDS ADAS CAPABILITY

COLLISION CENTRES — calibration in-house keeps the repair cycle complete
GLASS BUSINESSES — windshield replacement routinely triggers camera calibration
DEALERSHIPS — service-lane ADAS capability and customer confidence
INDEPENDENT CALIBRATION CENTRES — standalone calibration as the business itself
TIRE, ALIGNMENT & SUSPENSION SHOPS — wheel and suspension work that affects sensors
